Coast Accommodation and Information for Families
Why Visit The Gold Coast?
If you want the perfect location for a family holiday, then the Gold Coast has
everything you could possibly ask for. A stunning mix of endless golden sand
beaches and rolling waves are right next to Queensland's favourite playground.
Add the hinterland region with mountains, rainforests and plenty more for the
nature lover to enjoy, and you'll soon discover that the Gold Coast has
everything you could possibly want for a holiday, all in one location.
How Do I Get To The Gold Coast?
There is an airport at Coolangatta, which is located at the southern end of the
Gold Coast region. You can also fly into Brisbane airport, which is
approximately 1 hour’s drive north of the Gold Coast. If you want to see as much
of the Gold Coast as possible, it's a good idea to hire a car. There's plenty of
parking and good road access to the various attractions.
Theme Parks
If you love theme parks, then the Gold Coast is definitely the theme park
capital of Australia. Allow at least a day to explore the 11 themed worlds at
Dreamworld, the southern hemisphere's largest theme park. If you like marine
life, then visit Sea World, always a family favourite with its friendly marine
life, rides and other attractions. Check out Warner Brothers Movie World, where
you can get an inside look at the magical world of the silver screen. If you
want to get your blood pumping, try the speed slide at Wet'n'Wild, along with
plenty of other fun ways to get wet. On a smaller scale but just as much fun are
theme parks like Cable Ski World, Ripley's Believe It Or Not, Frozen World, and
plenty of family amusement arcades.
Shopping
If you like to shop, then the Gold Coast makes it easy for you to shop 'til you
drop! Pacific Fair is one of Australia's largest shopping centres, and certainly
one of its most attractive with leafy walkways and lakeside restaurants. Marina
Mirage overlooks the magnificent Broadwater, and contains a heady mix of
imported and local designer fashions and accessories, cafes, art galleries and
casual dining. Broadbeach boasts the Oasis Shopping Centre, which is right in
the middle of this attractive dining precinct.
Cavill Avenue is right in the heart of Surfers Paradise, and has been the hub of
Surfers for many years now. Go searching, and you'll find boutique lined
boulevards, shopping centres and duty free shops. If you're looking for one
place to shop in Surfers, then visit Cavill Mall. It contains dozens of cafes,
eateries and bars; you can find something you like no matter what your taste or
budget.
The Gold Coast is also a market lover's paradise. The Carrara Market is the
biggest market in the southern hemisphere, with an almost endless selection of
crafts, leather goods, novelties, food, books and rides. Friday nights from
5.30pm to 10.00pm in Surfers Paradise there's a beachfront market. You will also
find markets at Burleigh Heads, Broadbeach, Jimboomba, Coolangatta and Tamborine
Mountain.
What About The Grown Ups?
If you're looking for some adult entertainment without the kids, head for Conrad
Jupiters Casino. This is a must-see part of any trip to the Gold Coast. It's
open 24 hours a day, with an exciting mix of gaming tables, fabulous live shows,
a high rollers room, a wide range of bars and themed restaurants, all spread
over two floors.
Want To Get Away From The Hustle And Bustle?
Now you've sampled the heady delights of Surfers Paradise and surrounds, perhaps
it's time to kick back a notch and enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature.
Head inland from the Gold Coast, and within a few kilometers a magical world
begins to unfold. There are tropical rainforests, mountain villages and many
other hidden treasures tucked away in the hinterland. Visit Mount Tamborine,
Lamington National Park, and the peaceful environment at O'Reilly's. There are
lots of walking tracks for you to explore, allowing close up access to the
natural beauty. The National Parks give you access to lots of special
destinations, including Witches Falls, Border Ranges, Mt Warning and Nightcap.
You can find maps at the National Parks to show you where the best walking
tracks are located, and you can choose one based on your level of fitness. There
are also day tour companies that conduct guided walks through the rainforest,
often including a visit to a natural swimming hole.
If you'd like to see some native animals up close, then visit Currumbin
Sanctuary. It contains the largest collection of native animals in the world.
You can feed the colourful lorikeets, have your photo taken with a koala, see
fresh waster crocodiles, walk amongst the kangaroos, or look a Tasmanian devil
in the eye. Even better, it's all within their natural environment.
Where Can I Stay?
It doesn't matter what type of accommodation you're looking for, you'll find it
in on the Gold Coast. There's a huge range of apartments, hotels, resorts and
more to choose from. You can stay right in the middle of the buzz of Surfers
Paradise, or relax in the peace and beauty of Palm Beach. No matter what your
lifestyle or budget, you will find the right sort of accommodation. If you need
